MIT is consistently ranked as one of the top Research Universities in the world. In fiscal year 2018 MIT’s campus research expenditures exceeded $715M.

The Institute relies strongly on federal agencies, private foundations, and corporations to support its research efforts. Internal seed funding programs also play an import role in the Institute’s research endeavor. Information about such resources is provided below.

Once a potential funding source has been identified, all proposals must be reviewed by the Research Administration Services before submission to a funding sponsor.

Research Development can provide assistance with identifying and applying to funding opportunities, and maintains a list of funding opportunity databases and other resources.
