Dr. Pingali recently arrived at MIT from the University of Chicago, where he served as the Associate Director for Research Development in the Office of Research and National Laboratories from 2017 to 2020. Kalyan is a chemical engineer with over 25 years of professional experience, including nine years in the chemical manufacturing and process industries as a Process Engineer in DuPont Singapore Ltd (Engineering Polymers), Naturite Agro Products Ltd (Oleoresins), Vantech Industries Ltd (Agrochemicals and Pesticides) and Armor Polymers Ltd (Petrochemicals).
After earning an MS (Chemical Engineering), PhD (Chemical Engineering) and an MBA from New Mexico State University, Kalyan did postdoctoral work in Chemical Engineering, then became an Assistant Research Professor at Rutgers University, followed by a position as Assistant Professor at Western Michigan University, before joining the Research Development Office at the University of Chicago.
Dr. Pingali has published 25 peer-reviewed first author research publications and 36 conference proceedings. He has developed prototypes which were integrated in various pharmaceutical industries in the USA and abroad and played a key part of a $100M NSF Engineering Research Center. He has also helped countless faculty win research and industry-collaboration Center funding from the NSF, NIH, DOE, DoD and other sources.
Research Development Coordinator

Tannu arrived at MIT with six years of research coordination experience including the Project Coordinator for the PTSD Brain Bank Research Study at the VA National PTSD Center, and Research Assistant at Boston Medical Center’s Project CARE. As Research Development Coordinator at MIT she manages the limited submission competition process, office communications, electronic resources and event planning, and works closely with the Director and Assistant Director of Research Development on opportunity research, sponsor interaction, and the submission of large complex proposals.
Tannu received a BA in Psych, a BS in Criminal Justice from the University of New Haven, and an MA in Mental Health Counseling and Behavioral Medicine from Boston University School of Medicine.
