MIT Standard Terms(apply unless Sponsor specifies otherwise)
- Extensions require sponsor prior approval
Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR)
- May incur pre-award costs 90 days prior to the award date without prior approval.
- Research awards may initiate a one-time no- cost extension of up to 12 months by notifying agency in writing at least 10 days prior to award expiration.
Army Research Office (ARO) and Army Research Laboratory (ARL)
- May incur pre-award costs 90 days prior to the award date without prior approval.
- Research awards may initiate a one-time no- cost extension of up to 12 months by notifying agency in writing at least 10 days prior to award expiration.
Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA)
- Under Construction
Department of Energy (DOE) – Office of Science
- May incur pre-award costs 90 days prior to the award date without prior approval
- No Cost Extensions require DOE approval: requests must be submitted via DOE/PAMS system by RAS, including new end date, amount of funds remaining, and justification (8,000 character max)
National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)
- May incur pre-award costs 90 days prior to award without prior approval
- May extend award one time up to 12 months at no additional cost: notification of extension must be received by the NASA Grant Officer at least 10 days prior to award expiration
- All other extensions must be approved in writing by the NASA Grants Officer
National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH)
- Under Construction
National Institutes of Health (NIH)
- May incur pre-award costs 90 days prior to award without prior approval.
- May extend award one time up to 12 months at no additional cost: notification of extension must be submitted prior to award expiration.
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)
- May incur pre-award costs 90 days prior to award without prior approval.
- May extend award one time up to 12 months at no additional cost: notification of extension must be submitted 10 days prior to award expiration.
- Subsequent extensions, or extensions requested after the 10 day deadline has passed, require NOAA prior approval.
National Science Foundation (NSF)
- MIT may incur pre-award costs 90 days prior to award without prior approval; requests for pre-award costs in excess of 90 days require prior approval.
- May extend award one time up to 12 months at no additional cost: notification of extension must be submitted 10 days prior to award expiration.
- Subsequent extensions, or extensions requested after the 10 day deadline has passed, require NSF prior approval. Subsequent extensions must be submitted 45 days prior to revised expiration date.
Office of Naval Research (ONR)
- May incur pre-award costs 90 days prior to the award date without prior approval
- All no-cost extensions require prior approval of the Administrative Grant Officer.
- No cost extensions require the concurrence of the Technical Representative, except for:
- first-time extensions AND
- 90 days or less AND
- where less than $50,000 remains unexpended.
