NSF Conference Participant Notice for NSF Conference/Workshop/Symposium Awards
The National Science Foundation (NSF) Proposal Award Policy and Procedure Guide (PAPPG) requires proposers requesting NSF funds for a conference, symposia, or workshop to have a policy or code of conduct in place that addresses sexual harassment, other forms of harassment, and sexual assault, and that includes clear and accessible means of reporting violations of the policy or code of conduct. The policy or code of conduct must address the method for making a complaint as well as how any complaints received during the conference will be resolved. Further, the policy or code of conduct must be disseminated to the conference participants prior to attendance at the conference and made available at the conference.
The Participant Notice [PDF] complies with the NSF requirements and must be provided to all participants prior to and upon arrival at any NSF supported conference, symposia, or workshop hosted by MIT, including those conducted virtually.
NSF Travel Awards
For any award that provides support for travel to scientific meetings, prior to the recipient’s participation in the meeting, the recipient must assure that the meeting organizer has a written policy or code-of-conduct that addresses sexual harassment, other forms of harassment, and sexual assault, and that includes clear and accessible means of reporting violations of the policy or code-of-conduct. The policy or code-of-conduct must address the method for making a complaint as well as how any complaints received during the meeting will be resolved. Recipients are not required to submit the policy or code-of-conduct for review by NSF.
The Lead Unit and Principal Investigator is responsible for ensuring the meeting organizer has an NSF compliant written policy or code-of-conduct. If the Lead Unit or PI has concerns, please reach out to Research Administration Services.
