ARPA-H advances health and medicine by working outside traditional research and commercial activity. Separate from NIH, it seeks to create new capabilities and solve problems through ambitious, well-specified, and measurable programs.
ARPA-H has adopted a model that is in line with DARPA and includes program managers (PMs), who are typically scientists from academia or industry and serve for an initial three-year term, renewable up to six years maximum. Unlike NIH, ARPA-H will not rely on peer review to score proposals. Instead, PMs combine imagination, drive, and proven expertise to create revolutionary ideas and breakthrough technologies.
ARPA-H's four focus areas are:
- Health Science Futures
- Scalable Solutions
- Proactive Health
- Resilient Systems
Finding Funding Opportunities
Program solicitations are announced through the ARPA-H Vitals newsletter, news page, or individual program pages, as well as Sam.Gov and Grants.Gov.
Proposal Submission
Check the solicitation and with the program manager for submission instructions. If the proposal will require any kind of agreement to terms at proposal stage (for example, OTA), contact your CA as soon as possible to start the review of the terms.
