The Department of Defense sponsors projects through several offices:

- Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA)
- Office of Naval Research (ONR)
Key Personnel
- Identifying key personnel: Follow the solicitation for whether to name key personnel in the proposal, and refer to the award document for key personnel named in the award.
- Prior approval: Required for reductions in effort of 25% or more or substitutions of key personnel. Normally, DOD contracts include a clause that names specific individuals and describes the requirements for requesting sponsor approval for any change in key personnel.
