Using Tuition Subsidy for Cost Sharing

Up to 66 percent of the MIT-provided tuition subsidy for graduate research assistants is a preferred source of cost sharing for MIT.

Accounts

  • Fall and spring RA tuition subsidy is charged to the department’s RA Tuition Account 17XXXXX.
  • Summer RA tuition subsidy is charged to the Institute’s Account 1732200.

Documentation

The DLCI should document:

  • Name of the student
  • Student’s percent of effort
  • Period of the effort on the project
  • Total amount of the subsidy provided during that period.

The DLCIs must send cost sharing documentation for a graduate student RA tuition subsidy to Sponsored Accounting (VPF) in accordance with sponsor requirements, or at least annually.
