Third party in-kind cost sharing is where parties outside MIT contribute value without transferring funds, such as donated services by non-MIT personnel or donations of supplies or equipment. All third-party in-kind cost sharing must be adequately documented and in line with sponsor terms.
Documenting Third-Party Cost Sharing
DLCI administrators must maintain donor documentation that substantiates that the commitment has been fulfilled, including invoices.
All donor documentation should include a brief statement from the donor describing the basis for determining the valuation of services, material, or equipment. In general, values for contributions of services and property are established in accordance with OMB Uniform Guidance for allowability and the terms of the federal award.
At least annually, provide copies of donor documentation of third-party in-kind cost sharing to:
- Sponsored Accounting
- RAS (for upload to KC)
