NIH grant officials are increasing their oversight of publications with foreign-affiliated collaborators. In some cases, advance permissions are now expected. Principal investigators should be aware of these changes and report foreign components early when preparing NIH-funded manuscripts with foreign-affiliated co-authors/collaborators or foreign-site activity.
PIs are encouraged to preserve international collaboration while taking account of NIH's expanded oversight of what is considered a reportable "foreign component.”
