Guidance on Implementation of National Security Presidential Memorandum 33 (NSPM-33)

Dear Colleagues,

On Tuesday, the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy issued guidance to federal research agencies on the implementation of National Security Presidential Memorandum 33 (NSPM-33). This new guidance directs federal agencies to work together over the next 120 days to develop model forms and instructions that clarify what information must be disclosed in federal grant applications, standardized across agencies to the greatest extent possible.

By way of background: NSPM-33, issued on January 14, 2021, directs a national response intended to safeguard the security and integrity of federally-funded R&D in the United States. You can read more about the guidance in this White House blog post.

The Office of the Vice President for Research will update the MIT research community in the coming months once we have detailed information about the changes that federal agencies will implement.

Please circulate this information within your communities as you deem appropriate. If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us at research-compliance-help@mit.edu.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Colleen Mazzeo Leslie, Assistant Provost for Research Administration

Greg Moffatt, Chief Research Compliance Officer

Office of the Vice President for Research
