MIT will recognize Thursday, November 27, 2025, and Friday, November 28, 2025, as Institute holidays, with offices reopening Monday, December 1, 2025. RAS due dates for proposals will be calculated based on the holidays.
The Institute is assessing and evaluating the initial impacts of the executive actions and new agency guidance we are aware of to date. This page requires Touchstone login.
In response to the Research Security Training (RST) requirement announced on September 10th, the KC System will undergo several system changes on the evening of October 8th. The KC System will be unavailable for approximately 1 hour beginning at 10pm.
As a result of these changes, KC proposals with NSF or DOE as sponsor/prime sponsor* will not be routed to RAS unless all key personnel have completed Research Security Training.
New research security training requirements will take effect this fall for federally funded “covered individuals.” We ask that you pay special attention to the new requirements for proposals and awards for NSF and DOE (for now – other agencies likely to follow), as outlined in Ian Waitz’s communication to faculty and researchers.
Beginning Monday, September 15th, invoices approved at the DLCI level by the PI will move directly to accounts payable for issuance of payment, without an additional review by RAS.
As announced on May 20, 2025, the Summer Session App is now available. Policy details and additional information can be found at Guidelines for Charging Faculty Summer Salary on our website, and the director of administration and finance (DAF) from your DLCI will reach out on next steps.
MIT’s indirect cost rates have been updated as a result of our routine, yearly negotiations with the federal government. Due to new complexity in the rate structure, a detailed FAQ provides additional guidance.
Starting in the spring 2025 term, research assistant (RA) tuition is no longer calculated on a daily basis. Tuition will post monthly throughout the term, following the registrar's proration schedule, rather than as a lump sum at the beginning of the term.
With an increase in PIs encouraging postdocs to apply for fellowships, research administrators should ensure adequate planning for postdoc salary, health insurance, and benefits beginning at the proposal stage.
