NSF has implemented Multifactor Authentication (MFA) for Research.gov to enhance security and safeguard NSF’s IT systems, user accounts, and personal and scientific data. MIT strictly adheres to NSF guidance and requirements in line with Institute research security and expects all faculty and staff to follow this procedure.
As of January 1, 2025, the U.S. Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) will require Enhanced Identity Proofing at login, using government-issued ID and other personal information. Only the PI (not RAS or an administrator) may submit proposals through EERE Exchange.

Updated guidelines for charging faculty summer salaries were announced in a letter on May 9, 2024. These include guidance on working internationally and on/off-campus appointments, as well as payment of summer salary on NIH awards in excess of the federally mandated NIH salary cap.
